Ilham Aliyev: “Where are universal human values, democracy, human rights and mercy?”
As reported by “Vestnik Kavkaza”, the president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev claimed that Islamophobia has turned into one of the state policy courses in some countries.
“It is obvious that Islam is being blackened. They try to relate Islam to terrorism. It is unbearable. It might lead and has already led to the civilizational conflict in the world,” declared the leader of Azerbaijan.
He used Europe as a negative example of Islamophobia consequences. In Aliyev’s opinion, migrants face a lot of problems in Europe.
“The refugees go to Europe in search of salvation, but what do they find there? They are dishonoured, insulted and imprisoned. They are slandered. Where are universal human values, democracy, human rights and mercy? We have no evidence of them,” noted the president.
It is worth reminding that the leader of Azerbaijan accused Western countries of fascism and zenophobia last year.
“People are being divided into categories depending on their religion and nationalities. What does this mean? This is fascism, racism and zenophobia,” claimed Ilham Aliyev at that point.
Official representatives of the United Nations criticised Islamophobia too. The UN Secretary-General’s Special Advisers for the Prevention of Genocide Adama Dieng and Jennifer Welsh declared that justification of national and religious hatred only stimulates discrimination and violence forbidden by the international law and legislation of some countries. They also noted that corrupted politicians aim at satisfying their political ambitions by means of intentional dissemination of false information and manipulation of people’s fears.
It has been regularly reported that the refugees from the Middle East and North Africa are not well accepted in Europe. Their rights have not been respected. Migrants face difficulties not only in poor European countries such as Greece, but also in prosperous European countries such as Germany.
