Bashing the Chechens as a strategy for collapse in Russia

Bashing the Chechens as a strategy for collapse in Russia

Russian mass media has started to actively speculate about the Chechens’ involvement in Islamic State of Iraq and Greater Syria (ISIS) development. The argument goes that the Chechens act as the main recruiters for the Takfiri organisation. What is there behind these statements? Have we forgotten unpleasant lessons of the history?

According to figures from the UN, there are representatives of more than a hundred countries fighting in ISIS. Therefore, it does not seem to be reasonable to refer the Takfiri group activities to some certain ethnic group. Nevertheless, in pursuit of sensation, journalists have no scruples about using the old idea of “enemy” rooted in the Russian public consciousness. Mass media hates the Chechens and returns to 1990-s, when the level of xenophobia increased sharply due to the military conflict in the North Caucasus. At that point, the Chechens were the scapegoat and the culprit of all the troubles Russia had to face. Nobody cared that the Chechens suffered more privations than all the rest. The situation improved in 2000-s. Terror organisations of the region were wiped out and the republic economy was restored by means of the federal centre. Education, health and social systems were properly financed and operated effectively.

Clearly, these information attacks against the Chechens and the intention to make people believe that the Chechens are involved in the activities of the ISIS unvarnished criminals have geopolitical purposes. Ramzan Kadyrov recent successful negotiations with the leading political figures of the Arab world cannot but irritate the Americans. On the one hand, the US consider the Persian Gulf countries as being their close allies. On the other hand, they are not eager to accommodate their interests. So, the Saudis initiate making connection with Russia which, unlike the US, has never conducted warfare against the Muslim world. This is what the Americans have been unabashedly doing for decades. Obviously, it is in the interests of the USA to promote the connection of the Chechens with the man-hateful ideology of the Takfiri organisation. The worst case scenario for the US is the co-operation of Russia with Saudi Arabia. The Americans will put all their efforts to prevent it. They are trying to separate Russia from within and plant the seeds of a civil war. Coupled with the ethnic or faith-based discord, it might lead to disastrous consequences.
