Ukraine as a staging ground for Jihadi radicals

Ukraine as a staging ground for Jihadi radicals

Ukrainian intelligent services claimed that the pseudo-Islamic radicals use the territory of Ukraine as a staging ground where they can forge their papers, have some rest and go through medical treatment.

At the beginning of November, the Ukrainian security services informed that the law-enforcement agencies managed to prevent 59 representatives of the radical groups from Syria from intervening the country. Among them were members of ISIS, “Jabhat an-Nusra” and “Caucasus Emirate”. All of them vowed to the self-proclaimed Caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi this summer. The radicals considered the Ukraine to be a staging ground where they could go through some medical treatment they needed and forge their papers. They might have been involved in Donbass conflict. It has already been reported that Jihadi radicals took part in the conflict. According to the Ukrainian security agency, the retained have already been deported to their native countries (Jordan, Egypt and Turkey).

Ukraine as a staging ground for Jihadi radicals

Middle East radicals come to the Ukraine through Turkey and Romania. They arrive to Odessa or Nikolaiv on sea. The Ukrainian authorities might take advantage of the radicals. There are no enough people in the Ukrainian army, and Jihadists who are ready to fight might be used as a powerful tool under the current circumstances in Donbass and conflict with Russia. Kiev might have their own goals as far as the so called jihad announced by jihadists against Russia is concerned. Porohenko administration allowed recruiting foreigners to the army. Besides that, the forbidden in Russia organization “Hizb ut-Tahrir al-Islami” is legally working in the Ukraine. It connects the Ukrainian intelligence services with the Middle East radicals. The news about 59 detained radicals might have been spread to cover the security services’ activities.
